The Conjuring

The Conjuring is a 2013 American supernatural horror film directed by James Wan and written by Chad Hayes and Carey W. Hayes. It is the first installment in The Conjuring Universe franchise. The Conjuring was inspired by the true-life case files of Ed and Lorraine Warren, American paranormal investigators and authors associated with prominent cases of hauntings. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga star as the Warrens, with Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor, Joey King, Shanley Caswell, Haley McFarland, Kyla Deaver, Meredith Monroe, and Stephen Meyers playing supporting roles.

The plot follows the Warrens as they come to the aid of the Perron family (Livingston, Taylor, King, Caswell), who are experiencing increasingly disturbing events in their farmhouse in Rhode Island in 1971. The Warrens soon discover that a dark demonic presence has terrorized the family for generations and that they may now be facing their most powerful case ever.

Wan and the Hayes Brothers had developed a fascination for haunted houses since they were kids growing up together in Australia; Wan shared his passion with screenwriter David Leslie Johnson while making Saw (2004), which led to him signing on to direct The Conjuring. Peter Safran produced The Conjuring for New Line Cinema and Warner Bros., with Rob Cowan serving as executive producer.

The Conjuring was released in North America on July 19, 2013. It became one of 2013’s highest-grossing films and received critical acclaim; reviewers praised its direction, screenplay dynamics between characters Lorraine Warren (Farmiga) and Ed Warren (Wilson), acting performances (notably Farmiga’s), cinematography look & style paying homage to classic horror films from the 1970s such as The Exorcist (1973) & Rosemary’s Baby (1968), its ability to make audiences “jump”, music & soundtrack score by Joseph Bishara & Nathan Whitehead which made excellent use of utilizing classic horror sound effects along with an original score to make audiences feel “on-edge”. The film grossed over $318 million worldwide from its $20 million budget making it both a commercial & critical success.. A sequel titled The Conjuring 2 was released on June 10th , 2016 also becoming both a financial & critical success grossing over $320 million worldwide against it’s $40 million budget& receiving even more praise than it’s predecessor for it’s scares , characters , atmosphere , story , acting performances(notably Patrick Wilson as Ed Warren) , music score & soundtrack by Joseph Bishara who returned from scoring it’s predecessor & Director James Wan who returned to helm the project for New Line Cinema once again..
